When you come to checkout a book, we want you to leave with a
book that you are really interested in and that you will enjoy
reading. The only way to do this is to browse through the
selection to find the perfect book. We do have certain
expectations though to accomplish this. |
 |
Using the Rulers As a Place
Holder While Browsing
- When you come into the library, get
a ruler out of the ruler jar.
- When you find a book that you would
like to look at, place the ruler firmly between that book
and the one next to it.
- Gently pull the book out that you
want to look at.
- Leave the ruler to hold the
spot.
- See Browsing expectations below.

Browsing Expectations
- Open the book and look at the
pictures and/or read the first page to see if it is a book
that you are interested in and it is at the right reading
level for you.
- Look at the back cover to see if it
has a summary of the book on it.
- Read the summary to see if you are
interested in the book.
- If you aren't interested, return
the book to the shelf where the ruler is and continue
to browse. Take the ruler with you.
- If you are interested, take the
book and the ruler and go to the check out counter.
- If you remove the ruler and the
book is in your hand, THAT is the book that you are checking
out.
- See Leaving the Library
expectations below.

Leaving the Library
- Once you have been to the
circulation desk (checkout counter), you are ready to return
to your classroom.
- As you are leaving, please return
the ruler to the ruler jar.
