Library Media Program

The mission of the Geary County Unified School District's library media program is to encourage lifelong learning and to meet the information needs of students, faculty, staff, and administration by providing them with the necessary skills to do so.  To provide the students with these necessary skills, we run an integrated library program.  In an integrated library program, the Library Media Specialist and the classroom teacher plan and implement lessons together that incorporate the standards for the classroom and the library program.  Students are able to come to the media center and check out on an as needed basis.  Some students come in everyday, while others may come in two to three times a week.

Our program has five goals.  They are as follows:

  1. Provide intellectual and physical access to information and ideas for a diverse population whose needs are changing.
  2. Ensure equity and freedom of access to information and ideas, unimpeded by social, cultural, economic, geographic, or technological constraints.
  3. Promote literacy and the enjoyment of reading, viewing, and listening for people of all ages and stages of development.
  4. Provide leadership and expertise in the use of information and instructional technologies.
  5. Participate in partnerships that enhance access to resources located outside the school.
