School hours

Please make sure your child is here at 7:50 for breakfast and no later than 8:20 for school.  School begins promptly at 8:30, and ends at 3:30.  It is absolutely vital to have your child at school each day so that learning can take place.  Appointments for your child need to be scheduled AFTER 3:30.

Illness

Please notify the office when your child is sick, and will not be attending school (717-4150).  Make-up work will be saved and assignments will be written down at the end of the day for your child.  If you are planning to come in earlier to pick up the work, please notify the office.  Also, your child will go out to recess and participate in P.E. unless we have a written note stating otherwise.

Tardies

Students are counted tardy if they arrive to school later than 8:30, or if your child leaves school before 3:30.  If your child has an appointment before school and will be returning by lunchtime, please notify the office by 8:40.  Our lunches are ordered by 8:50.  If no lunch is ordered, you will need to send a sack lunch with your child.

Money

Lunch and milk money will be handled through the office.  Morning milk may be purchased for snack time.  The cost is $8.00 for 20 milks.  Cookies are offered on Fridays for $.25 each.  An extra main dish is available daily for $1.00.

Snacks

Your child may bring a nutritious snack to school to eat in the morning and/or afternoon.  Ideas for healthy snacks include fruits, vegetables, crackers, pretzels, etc.

Toys

Toys are NOT allowed at school unless I have given special permission during V.I.P. sharing time.  If toys do arrive in the classroom, I will hold them until a parent comes to collect them.  This way items are not lost or stolen.

Field Trips

We will take field trips as a grade level this year.  I expect all students to attend, as these are learning experiences.  Good behavior is a must on the trips!!

Swimming

Fourth grade classes will be learning water safety at the YMCA.  Transportation will be provided by school bus.  We will let you know the exact dates when we receive them.

Pillows

Your child may bring a comfortable pillow for our community circle activities on the carpet.  This will be left at school for the year.

Homework

Homework is assigned often but not on specific days.  Assigned homework and unfinished work is due the following school day at 8:35am.  Most of the time, there is class time to finish daily work.  Consequences will follow if the assignments are not turned in on time.  One consequence will be to stay in during recess or after school to complete the work.  I record very few zeroes—only if the assignment is NEVER turned in.  Again, I expect the students to take responsibility for the homework.
I will provide assignment slips for any student that wants to use them.  It’s hard to remember assignments when we study so many different subjects during one day.

Grades

The grading is the same as on the report card.  We will put the letter grade and the percent earned on assignments that have been checked.  Students will sometimes exchange papers with each other and do some grading.  We will still monitor and check over the work when needed.  We will be sending home 5 week grade reports during the nine-week grading period.  This report is to inform both the student and the parent of the progress made in the classroom.

I expect students to do their personal best in class each day.  They will also be required to study outside of school.  In order to ensure success, I would like to see students maintain an 80% average or above in all subject areas.
