| Location Westwood Elementary is located in the northwest area of Junction city and is one of six elementary schools located in the city. The Westwood teachers and support staff members are very pleased that you have chosen to visit our website. We are a family of professional educators with a focus on teaching and learning in a warm and respectful environment, where we celebrate our diversity each and every day. We are diverse in many ways and consider that one of our greatest strengths. |

| Award Winning School In recent years we have received Challenge Awards for Reading and Mathematics which are awarded by the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force to Schools who achieve good academic results in spite of some barriers. We also achieved the State Standard of Excellence in Mathematics in 2004. |

| Researched-Based Programs We offer research-based programs to ensure learning for all students including the Success for All reading program and Everyday Mathematics. Individual reading tutoring for our primary students and Soar to Success reading comprehension tutoring for intermediate students are also available to identified students. We provide and after school program with a strong math component as well as extended enrichment activities for your children. |

| Parent Involvement There are many opportunities for parent involvement at Westwood. Each year we present Schools in Preview at the beginning of the year to highlight our goals for the year. In May we join our entire district for Schools in Review, a celebration of the learning that has occurred through the year. Many people attend these events every year. |

| Site Council Our Site Council is open to all and at Westwood, fifth grade students have an opportunity to serve as members of our council. They join the adults in presenting our annual report to the Board of Education. We are always seeking ways to build student and adult leadership at Westwood. |

| Opportunities for Growth We are very excited about the opportunities for growth in our area. We anticipate an increase in our current enrollment, 260-280 range, in the near future. While we do not have as large a military population as the elementary schools on post, we do have a number of military students. We hope to enroll more military families due to the new housing developments in our neighborhood. |

| Great Office Staff Our office staff is efficient, experienced, and extremely friendly. They will do everything possible to ensure that your transition to our community is easy and smooth for you. As principal of Westwood Elementary since 1998, my door is always open to students, parents, and staff. I am a veteran educator with over thirty years of experience in public education. Learning for all students is truly my passion. As a native of Junction City, I understand and recognize the important contributions of the military community.
